Contributing Funding to Political Committees

Contributing to campaigns and hosting/attending fundraisers helps to elect policy makers who share your ideals and perspectives.  It is also critical to building strong relationships with policymakers and creating opportunities to engage in important conversations with them, their staff members, and other opinion leaders around them.

You can contribute to both the Small Donor Committee and the Committee for Physician Anesthesia Care based on the maximum limits per legislative cycle.

Political Committee (State Level PAC)

Political Action committees are easier to raise money, as they can receive a higher level of contribution, but have lower limits for political contributions. However, this does help set expectations and allow money to be widely spread.

Rules

  • Can receive $725 per election cycle – from any of the entities listed above under “Political Giving Limits” (every 2 years)
  • Can donate to State Level Candidates and State level Political Committees and State level Parties ONLYno Federal
  • Can donate $725 to a Leadership PAC (state level political committee), and State Party
  • A maximum of $3,875 may be given to the state party. (eg. The total contribution given to the State party, House and Senate Campaign funds from a campaign cannot exceed $3,875)
  • Contributions limits are lower – all State Candidates (excluding RTD & County Commissioners) –  $400 per election cycle (every 2 years)

Compliance

  • Compliance is similar, but potentially less burdensome
  • Compliance filings to Colorado Secretary of State, quarterly and bi-weekly during election periods (begins 90 days prior to any election)

  • Contributions limits are the highest – all State Candidates (excluding RTD & County Commissioners):

Compliance

  • Compliance reporting is much more labor intensive, largely because of the quantity of contributions required to reach the goal
  • Compliance filings to Colorado Secretary of State, quarterly and bi-weekly during election periods (begins 90 days prior to any election)
  • Must report donor name, address
  • No corporate or business donations can be accepted
  • Must maintain Colorado bank account and remain in good standing with Colorado Secretary of State Business filing requirements (usually just annual renewal)
